The African Impact team in Zanzibar is hiring! We are looking for a proactive, independent and organised Coordinator for our Teaching & Community Support project. This role is deeply embedded in the community, and offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself into Zanzibari life whilst leading and supporting volunteers who come to work on the project. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of volunteers, ensuring they have an unforgettable experience whilst staying safe, healthy and entertained both on project and at our volunteer house.

Must haves:

  • Undergraduate degree (ideally in a teaching/development related field but not mandatory)
  • Able to move full-time to Zanzibar for minimum of one year
  • Have travelled internationally and/or volunteered abroad (within Africa preferred)
  • To be successful in this role you must:
  • Be able to communicate with people from all walks of life and to adjust communication styles as necessary (e.g. talking with international volunteers vs. local school teachers)
  • Enjoy being around people and maintaining positive, high-energy levels consistently (e.g. getting volunteers excited about project when they’re tired/it’s hot etc.)
  • Be super organised and obsessed with punctuality and efficiency (e.g. making sure all your resources are printed and copied ahead of time, guiding volunteers to prepare lesson plans etc.)
  • Be creative and passionate about organising events and activities for volunteers and fostering a comfortable, inclusive environment (e.g. organising quiz and movie nights, looking for new things volunteers can do on the weekend etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare new volunteers for the duration of their stay by going through their orientation and induction
  • Ensure aims for each year are set and track achievements per quarter, submitting reports in a timely manner
  • Get involved in the daily activities and preparation for project work, especially to coach and encourage volunteers and to see how well activities are going
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners
  • Help with volunteers’ questions and resolve issues they may have
  • Ensure volunteers are adhering to our Code of Conduct and working within the framework of our Child Protection Policy
  • To assist volunteers in communications and their duties in the community
  • To ensure volunteers well-being at project sites and keep volunteers busy during projects

Logistics

  • Accommodation and food are provided at the volunteer house during the week
  • One return flight will be reimbursed
  • Salary: dependent on experience
